Training and Technical Assistant Specialist
As a training and technical assistance specialist, David, an Oglala Lakota enrolled on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, is responsible for developing targeted training and technical assistance services that accurately reflect the science of prevention and meet the evolving needs of SAMHSA prevention tribal grantees, as well as the broader prevention field. To do this, he works closely with staff across the CAPT system to identify and prioritize service needs, and develop quality materials, both in print and online, that are clear, compelling, and relevant; reflect SAMHSA priorities, and inform prevention practices.
David brings over 20 years of experience in reentry work with American Indian offenders; adults and juveniles, and over 30 years of experience in working with American Indian communities in addressing chemical dependency and substance abuse. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in education at Black Hills State University, and is currently working on his Master’s degree in strategic leadership, at Black Hills State University, and has dedicated his efforts in the promotion of holistic well-being through cultural teachings and way of life.
