Community Readiness Assessment Tools

Two surveys are available to assist you with determining your community's level of readiness for prevention:

  1. The following survey, developed by the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research at Colorado State University, can be used as a tool to guide prevention efforts at the individual community level. In particular, the survey assesses the following dimensions: community efforts, community knowledge of efforts, leadership, community climate, knowledge about the issue, and resources for prevention efforts.

  2. For questions about the survey, contact the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research at 800-835-8091.

  3. The following survey, developed by Goodman and Wandersman at the University of South Carolina, uses key leaders to look at three areas: awareness, concern, and action across community levels. Key leaders respond to questions in these three areas both on a personal level and a perceptual level of their organization's responses.

Please note: No scoring sheet is available for this survey.  The authors did not create one.  They recommend that communities average the responses for each question and then interpret the results in the context of their own community.
