About the Southwest CAPT

CSAP’s Southwest CAPT supports the application of evidence-based substance abuse prevention programs, practices and policies at the regional, state and local levels, encouraging cooperation and collaboration between and within each level.

Five important premises guide our work:

  • Skilled, knowledgeable local people best solve local problems

  • Collaboration on a federal, state and local level promotes the unified advancement of prevention

  • The positive impact of prevention is more likely when State systems and community-based practitioners are able to identify, adaptively apply and evaluate evidence-based prevention approaches

  • Sound, comprehensive and continual evaluation at multiple levels promotes the effectiveness of prevention, providing reliable data for informal decisions

  • People support what they help create

Southwest CAPT convenes a Regional Technical Expert Panel of prevention leaders from specific prevention focused agencies 2-3 times a year.  This group provides input/feedback to the CAPT on prevention needs across the southwest region.
