State Incentive Grant - Kansas Communities That Care

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA's) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) awarded Kansas a State Incentive Grant for three years, starting in 1997.The Governor's State Incentive Grant Agreement - Kansas Communities That Care - presents an innovative, coordinated course of action for substance abuse prevention.

The mission of the Kansas Communities That Care State Incentive Grant was to "promote a comprehensive statewide, risk-focused strategy that increases the capacity of Kansas communities to achieve targeted outcomes, reduce risk, and increase protection for interrelated adolescent problems," and then to sustain and expand the strategy at the conclusion of the SIG initiative. Kansas Communities That Care creates a system that is based on sound data, builds capacity in communities, uses best practices and promising approaches, and actively involves Kansans at all levels.
