SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF)

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has adopted the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) to guide planning, implementation and evaluation of all substance abuse prevention, treatment and mental health services. This workshop will provide an overview of the five stages of the framework. SAMHSA/CSAP’s goals for community change utilizing the SPF framework will be presented. Readiness for adopting the SPF framework and strategies for implementing each stage of the framework will be discussed.

Target Audience:
Community coalitions and prevention providers involved in coalitions.
 
Training Objectives:
This workshop will cover:
  1. Background and purpose of the Strategic Prevention Framework
  2. SAMSHA's long term goals concerning the SPF
  3. The five stages of the SPF framework
  4. Indicators of community and coalition readiness to adopt the SPF framework
  5. How to build readiness to adopt the SPF framework in your community
  6. Strategies for implementing each stage of the SPF framework
  7. Resources to support SPF implementation
  8. Ask and field program specific issues

Lecture/presentation with discussion and/or group work and one-on-one coaching
