Training Overview

ATOD & Prevention Basics—SAPST

An overview of evidence-based Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists Training (SAPST) knowledge and skills, including the following topics: origins of substance abuse prevention; prevention research; gathering and analyzing data to inform prevention program planning; outcome evaluation; and the impact and importance of understanding cultural context in prevention.

Target Audience:
Substance Abuse Prevention program, administrative and/or management staff.
 
Training Objectives:
Participants will increase their knowledge of current evidence-based Substance Abuse Prevention program planning and development. Participants will increase their skill base in order to:
  1. Describe and apply the building blocks of effective substance abuse prevention programs.
  2. Describe and apply the risk and protective factors approach to substance abuse prevention.
  3. Describe and apply the steps in building a successful substance abuse prevention plan.
  4. Understand and apply the steps to effective evaluation of substance abuse prevention programs.
Format:
Lecture/Presentation with discussions, interactive activities and/or group work.
Follow-up technical assistance via telephone, email or face-to-face contact is available.

Time Frame:
3-5 days depending on the needs of the requesting organization.
