D. G. Mawn, M.A., J. D. — Senior Program Manager D. G. Mawn serves as PIRE/SECAPT's State Coordinator for the state of Tennessee. He brings to the project a background in anthropology, religion, and law, which provide a skill set that connects well in both political and community settings. He has 14 years of diverse work experience in the areas of administration, systems management, grant writing, training, curriculum development and implementation, and advocacy that address the issues of public and mental health including alcohol, tobacco and other drug use prevention and reduction. D. G. served as the Director of an Appalachian community-based organization prior to his work in state government as the Associate Director of the Kentucky SIG project and thereafter as the Deputy Director of the Kentucky Office of the Governor’s Agency for Substance Abuse Policy. He participated as a panel member on the Strategic Planning Think Tank on Sustaining Interventions and the National Cross-Site evaluation of CSAP’s State Incentive Grant. He now serves as a Senior Program Manager for Training and Technical Assistance for SECAPT. He is also a co-founder and managing partner of Community Systems Investment International. Through this organization D. G. provides consultation and coaching to states and communities across the U.S. on human systems/system development and effectiveness, leadership development, strategic planning and communication, and evaluation. The organization has just completed a translation of their documents into Spanish to better serve the Latino community. He has served as a consultant to the National Center for the Application of Prevention Technology, and provided technical assistance for the Border Center for the Application of Prevention Technology, Illinois Bureau for Substance Abuse Prevention, Indiana Bureau for Mental Health Promotion and Addiction Prevention, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Office for Addictive Disorders and the Michigan Mid-South Commission for Substance Abuse. Some of his training, presentation, and coaching topics have included, but are not limited to: Cultural Diversity; Developing a Communication Strategy; Infrastructure and Community Readiness; Integrating Health Services; Legal Issues and Health-Care; Linking Systems to Address HIV-AIDS; Needs and Resource Assessment; Outcome Based Decision-Making; Process Evaluation; Strategic Planning; Social Marketing; Sustainability and Visioning. D. G. holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from The Catholic University of America, a Master of Arts in Religious Studies and Counseling from Spalding University, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from DePaul University. |
