The Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (SAPT) Block Grant provides funding to States, Tribes, and Jurisdictions to plan, carry out, and evaluate activities to prevent and treat substance abuse. It is awarded to the Single State Agency in each state. The program’s overall goal is to support and expand substance abuse prevention and treatment services while providing maximum flexibility to the States, Tribes, and Jurisdictions receiving funding. In many States, Tribes, and Jurisdictions, it is the primary source of funding for substance abuse prevention and treatment.
The SAPT Block Grant is one of two block grants given to States, Tribes, and Jurisdictions to address their unique behavioral health issues. The other is the Community Mental Health Services Block Grant.
