As a Training and Technical Assistance Specialist for SAMHSA's CAPT, Don is responsible for working with six western states in the development and provision of training and technical assistance that meet the evolving needs of SAMHSA grantees. His job is to make sure that training and technical assistance being provided is professional and relevant. He does this by working closely with his assigned States and members of the CAPT West RT Team to identify and prioritize training and technical assistance needs and resources needed to carry out a thoughtful and professional product that reflect SAMHSA's standards and meets the needs of the State’s.
Don brings extensive experience in social work and substance abuse prevention. For the first 10 years of his career he worked in Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, and Adoptions. He has spent the last 18 years of his career in Substance Abuse Prevention where he served as the Director of the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention, the New Mexico NPN and the SPF SIG Director for 15 years and the last 3 years working for JBS International as the Southwest and Pacific Islands Regional Services Manager. He earned his MSW and BA in Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University.
