About SAMHSA's CAPT

SAMHSA's [1]Collaborative for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) is a national substance abuse prevention training and technical assistance (T/TA) system dedicated to strengthening prevention systems and the nation’s behavioral health workforce. Specifically, SAMHSA's CAPT provides capacity-building training and technical assistance designed to help SAMHSA-funded Grantees [2]:

  • Successfully implement all five steps of SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework
  • Use data to inform strategic planning; and
  • Select and implement evidence-based interventions.

SAMHSA's CAPT is an integrated national system, providing services across all of the ten U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regions. A Core team provides overall program direction and ensures the delivery of consistent and high quality technical assistance services. A regional presence and sensitivity to regional issues is maintained through five Resource Teams, comprising regionally-based expert staff that reflect the diversity of their regions and possess the experience and abilities to serve varied demographic, language, and cultural groups. SAMHSA's CAPT system also draws on an extensive network of consultants to meet specialized technical assistance needs.
