Read the following scenarios and respond to the
questions.
You have been working for six months in a community coalition
initiated by the Board of Health to address health-related
issues, particularly substance abuse. Current prevention efforts
focus on increasing community awareness of substance-related
problems through news articles, community forums, and educational
programs for parents and youth in community settings.
The coalition sincerely wants to involve young people
in its work. You recently received a grant that will enable
you to
hire youth with stipends. You don’t have a strong relationship
with the school system, but several representatives from youth-serving
organizations are on your Board.
Outline your steps for recruiting youth to work with your
program.
Now you have been working with your youth for a year.
The group is getting tired of doing the same activities—leading
workshops for younger children at the local Y. Some are thinking
about leaving.
What do you do? Outline possible ideas.
