HIV/AIDS Initiative
This initiative aims to engage community level domestic public and private
nonprofit entities to prevent and reduce the onset of substance abuse (SA),
and transmission of HIV and hepatitis among minority populations and minority
reentry populations in communities of color disproportionately affected
by SA, HIV/AIDS, and/or hepatitis.
The Northeast CAPT provides technical assistance (TA) to the MAI grantees
in the form of:
- Referrals and information dissemination via listservs
- Electronic individual
TA
- Distance learning courses on a variety of prevention topics
- Regional
workshops

Cohort VI New Grantee Technical Assistance Training
September 17-18, 2008
The meeting explored strategies for integrating systems of care for
people with or at-risk for mental or addictive disorders and HIV/AIDS.
The agenda for Day 1, developed by a workgroup comprising CAPT leadership
and CSAP Project Officers, included:
- Plenary presentations on current trends in HIV/AIDs, substance abuse,
and hepatitis;
- Breakout sessions on cultural competency, fidelity and implementation,
and strategies for working with re-entry populations (i.e., ex-offenders
released from prison); and
- Opportunities for individual consultations with CAPT evaluators.
Day 2 focused on funding trends and sustainability. Breakout sessions
explored strategies for obtaining and keeping funding, publishing in
a peer-reviewed journal, building partnerships/cultivating relationships,
client recruitment and retention, and use of the HIV Management Reporting
Tool.

Cohort IV and V Technical Assistance Training
June 9-10, 2008
During this interactive training institute, CSAP and CAPT staff provided
technical support to Cohort IV and V MAI grantees in their close-out
period. Presentations and break-out sessions focused on the areas
of transition planning, evaluation, and sustainability.
