Minority HIV/AIDS Initiative

CSAP's Northeast CAPT Provides Technical Assistance to Minority HIV/AIDS Initiative Grantees (MAI)

This initiative aims to engage community level domestic public and private nonprofit entities to prevent and reduce the onset of substance abuse (SA), and transmission of HIV and hepatitis among minority populations and minority reentry populations in communities of color disproportionately affected by SA, HIV/AIDS, and/or hepatitis.

The Northeast CAPT provides technical assistance (TA) to the MAI grantees in the form of:
  • Referrals and information dissemination via listservs
  • Electronic individual TA
  • Distance learning courses on a variety of prevention topics
  • Regional workshops
2007 Meetings

On February 12, 2007, CSAP and regional CAPTs met with the MAI grantees in Washington, DC. The goal of this meeting was to provide MAI grantees with information on training and TA available to them, as well as discuss their implementation of SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).

On July 23-25, 2007, NECAPT held a three-day TA workshop in Philadelphia, PA for MAI grantee program directors/ coordinators and evaluators. The meeting was designed to provide participants with TA to support their continued work and facilitate peer sharing of lessons learned. Seventy-one participants, representing 36 MAI grants, attended.
