Summary
Over the last four days, we have reviewed answers to eight questions
that you can use to guide the development of any data presentation
plan. We discussed the importance of developing a clear understanding
of the data you want to present, clarifying the intended purpose
of and audience for your presentation, and choosing an appropriate
presentation format based on the specific needs and interests of
your target audience. We then explored some strategic decisions that
you can make about the details of your data presentation that will
maximize its chances for success, including identifying the right
amount of information to present as well as the right presenter,
site, and day/time for your presentation.
As you move forward with developing your own data presentation,
keep the following points in mind:
- Define your purpose and let it guide
your work.
- Involve key stakeholders in your decision-making.
- Get help when
you need it.
- Emphasize substance over style.
- Use simple graphics supplemented
by text and tables.
- Respect your audience.
- Move your data to action!
In addition, remember that there are numerous organizations and
materials that can help you and your planning team dig deeper into
this important topic. Some of them are listed in the Resources
section.
On this final day of the event, please do the following:
- Visit
the Message
Board to review the questions and comments
posted by participants throughout
the event.
- Share one or two key things you learned from
participating in the event and
hope to apply to future work.
We have developed a brief course evaluation to gather information
about your experience throughout this online event. Your careful
reflections will help us improve future events. Please do not fill
out this evaluation until you have completed the course.
If, for any reason, you do not feel comfortable
completing the evaluation, please go to the evaluation page,
enter your e-mail
address, and click the “submit” button. This will let
us know that you completed the event and provide us with the information
we need to send you a certificate of completion.
