Target Audience: State-level and community-level prevention practitioners with a basic understanding of the role of evaluation in programming. This workshop is appropriate for those preventionists interested in becoming more familiar with evaluation techniques; however, this workshop will not teach participants how to conduct a full evaluation on their own.

Training Objectives: Participants will be able to:

• Increase understanding of the value of evaluating programs
(reasons for doing and not doing an evaluation)
• Learn ways to identify and hire an evaluator
• Increase understanding of how to work with an evaluator
• Identify ways to reduce the costs of an evaluator
• Stimulate interest in evaluating programs

Format of Training: This training explores the following topics: how to find an evaluator, what to ask about and assess when hiring an evaluator, making the evaluation work.

CSAP's Northeast CAPT trainers will use the following techniques throughout this workshop:

• Presentation of background material
• Large group discussion, designed to draw lessons and experiences
from participants

Timeframe: Approximately 3 hours

Number of Participants: Minimum of 10 up to a maximum of 50 participants
