Collaboration: A Strategy for Prevention Practitioners

Target Audience: State-level and community-level prevention practitioners with an interest in collaboration and the best ways you might go about learning how to collaborate. This workshop is appropriate for participants with a basic level of expertise in this area.

Training Objectives: Participants will be able to:

• Describe key elements and stages of collaboration and apply this knowledge to a
prevention planning process.
• Identify levels and types of collaboration in the participant's prevention network.
• Assess the developmental stages of existing collaborations and identify methods
to improve coordination and collaboration.
• Determine what role each participant can take to make his/her collaboration
successful.
• Communicate the benefits and costs of being involved in collaboration.

Format of Training: This training explores the following topics: Establishing Ground Rules, What is Collaboration?; Continuum of Collaboration; Benefits and Costs of Collaboration; Benefits and Costs of Collaborating; Types of Collaboration; Stages of Collaboration; Stages of Collaboration Checklist; People Create Successful Collaborations

CSAP's Northeast CAPT trainers will use the following techniques throughout this workshop:
• Presentation of background material
• Small group work that challenges participants to examine the effectiveness of
real world cases of prevention
• Large group discussion designed to draw lessons and experiences from
participants

Timeframe: Approximately 3-3 1/2 hours

Number of Participants: Minimum of 10 up to a maximum of 50 participants
