Assessment: A Vital Preplanning Activity

Target Audience: State-level and community-level prevention practitioners with a basic understanding of designing and implementing prevention programs. This workshop is appropriate for beginner and intermediate participants without any prior experience using assessment tools and processes.

Training Objectives: Participants will be able to:
• Review the purposes for conducting a needs and resources assessment
• Learn about existing national, state, regional, local sources of data
• Review methods of collecting new assessment data
• Compare the strengths and weaknesses of data collection methods
• Consider discussions about presenting findings

Format of Training: This training explores the following topics: reasons to conduct a needs and resources assessment; uses for and examples of existing data; generating new data; relative advantages and disadvantages of data sources; and sharing data.

CSAP's Northeast CAPT trainers will use the following techniques throughout this workshop:
• Presentation of background material
• Large group discussion designed to draw lessons and experiences from
participants

Timeframe: Approximately 1-1 1/2 hours

Number of Participants: Minimum of 10 up to a maximum of 50 participants
