Welcome to
Linking Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention
to Academic Success, an online course sponsored by CSAP’s
Northeast Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies.
This workshop is designed to help you better articulate the connections
between prevention and achievement, so that you can more effectively
promote prevention programs in your school and community. As a participant
in the event, you will have the opportunity to:
- Review the latest research linking prevention programs
to academic achievement
- Examine models for collecting data that links substance
use and violence with academic performance
- Learn ways to “make the case” that
prevention programming can improve academic outcomes
This course will also allow you to meet other practitioners in an
innovative, online forum. You will participate in moderated Web-based
discussions, where you can exchange ideas and learn from your colleagues
in the field. You will also participate in online activities that
let you immediately apply what you have learned. We hope you enjoy
this distance learning experience.
This program was adapted from a course originally
developed with funds from the U.S. Department
of Education, Safe and Drug-free Schools Program,
by the National Training and Technical Assistance Center for Middle
School Drug Prevention and School Safety Coordinators, now operating
as the National Coordinator Training and Technical Assistance Center.
