Training Overview

Coalition Building

Goal:

To introduce participants to coalition building and develop skills needed
to accomplish goals that are beyond the reach of any individual member or organization.

Target Audience:

Prevention program staff, health educators, and community activists interested in making the most effective use of partnerships and collaborations.

Training Objectives:

As a result of participating in this training, participants will be better able to:

  1. To understand the lifecycle all coalitions go through.
  2. To identify elements of successful coalitions.
  3. To identify ways to motivate and involve a variety of partnerships
    toward a common goal.
  4. To develop skills needed in leading local coalitions.
  5. To obtain practical tools that can be used in building coalitions.

Format of Training:

In a coalition building training, we can offer three levels of presentation:

Ninety-minute overview- of coalition building, introducing the lifecycle of a coalition and elements of successful coalitions, and providing real-world examples.

Four-hour overview- of a coalition's lifecycle and elements of successful coalitions, including skill practice sessions.

Day-long- providing an in-depth study of a coalition's lifecycle, elements of a successful coalition, skill practice sessions, training, and on-site technical assistance for participants' local efforts.
