Training Overview

Prevention Specialists Role in Working with Faith Communities

Goal:

To introduce Prevention Specialists to information, strategies and materials that can be used to work with the Faith Community.

Target Audience:

Substance abuse prevention specialists and program staff, health educators and others interested in engaging faith communities in their prevention efforts.

Training Objectives:

As a result of participating in this training, participants will be better able to:

  1. Identify the role of the faith community in substance abuse prevention.
  2. Identify barriers to and opportunities for faith community involvement.
  3. Describe a Substance Abuse Prevention Congregational Team Ministry Model.
 

Format of Training:

This training consists of brief presentations, small group discussions, viewing the video, People of Faith: Partners in Prevention, and review of the Building a Team Ministry manual.  The training can be delivered in 4-5 hours. The longer timeframe allows for more discussion of specific planning steps.
