Parents play an important role in their children's substance use, but few prevention programs teach parenting and communication skills that could help parents be a positive force in their child's life. To fill this gap, a small number of programs are focusing on ways to help parents develop these skills—including three innovative programs participating in SAMHSA's Service to Science Initiative.
During September’s National Prevention Network conference in Pittsburgh, PA, representatives from Service to Science will present a workshop that showcases four of these programs.
Every year SAMHSA’s CAPT and NACE collaborate to offer the Native American STS Initiative to community-based prevention programs developed by and for Native Americans.
