Tribal Liasion Technical Assistant
David Brave Heart is an Oglala Lakota enrolled on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He has more than 20 years of experience in reentry with American Indian offenders. David has provided pre- and post-release services for adult and youth American Indian offenders as a case manager and program manager with the Walks Tall program through the Council on Crime and Justice. He has done impressive work with community corrections in advocating for culturally based programming in reducing the recidivism and incarceration rate of American Indian offenders. David has also done extensive work as a counselor/therapist, and trainer, in addressing both substance abuse and chemical dependency. He currently works as a Tribal Liaison Technical Assistant for Central CAPT, Technical Assistance Specialist for the Tribal Youth Training and Technical Assistance Center and the Tribal Juvenile Detention Reentry Training and Technical Assistance Center at Education Development Center.
David holds a Bachelor’s degree in education from Black Hills State University, Spearfish, SD. He is currently working on a Master’s program in Strategic Leadership at Black Hills State University. He has also dedicated his efforts to the promotion of holistic well-being through cultural teachings and way of life.
