As senior epidemiologist for the Core, Carol is involved in development of epidemiology-related products such as the Shared Risk and Protective Factors (SHARP) Tool. In addition, Carol provides epidemiology-related training and technical assistance as needed to grantees implementing the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) and collaborates with epidemiologists from the five CAPT Resource Teams to ensure consistency in service across SAMSHA’s CAPT.
Carol has extensive experience in instrument design, data collection, and data analysis across multiple research and social service settings. She has collaborated on the evaluations of juvenile court systems, violence in schools, and the quality of substance abuse and violence prevention programs in schools. She also contributed to the redesign of the Drug Abuse Warning Network. In addition, she was involved in Phase III of the National Cross-Site Evaluation of the State Incentive Grants (SIGs) and worked on the SPF SIG National Cross-Site Evaluation for the first two cohorts of SPF SIG funded grantees. Carol earned her Ph.D. in sociology with a concentration in criminology and deviance from the University of Kentucky.
