The following are summaries of the new or modified information that has been placed on the "Building a Successful Prevention Program" web-site (beginning in August 1999):

Apr 14, 2005

  • Added the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) in the "Rated Effective By" section for 24 best and promising practices using information from OJJDP's Model Program Guide at http://www.dsgonline.com/. These 24 practices were deemed either "Effective" or "Exemplary" by OJJDP.
  • Changed the following practices from Promising to Best using the information from OJJDP's Model Program Guide: Bicultural Competence Skills Approach, Families in Action, I Can Problem Solve, and Native American Prevention Project Against AIDS and Substance Abuse.
  • Removed from the database the programs/strategies Project STATUS and Norms for Behavior and Rule Setting in School due to their lack of replicability.

  • Made modifications to the risk factors on the best and promising practices search page. This includes changing "Early and Persistent Anti-Social Behavior" from the school domain to the individual/peer domain. And a new risk factor, "gang involvement" was added. These modifications were made due to the changes instituted by Hawkins and Catalano (the researchers who developed the list of risk and protective factors included on this website).
  • Made the above modifications to the list of risk factors on the website.

April 2, 2003

  • Added information regarding SAMHSA National Registry of Effective Program (NREP) status onto website. This includes icons next to best practices and promising practices on the alphabetical listings page if they are included on the SAMHSA NREP. This also includes identification as promising, effective or model program status below the titles of those programs on the programs' pages.

March 27, 2003

  • Updated information on the Preparing for the Drug Free Years page. This included updates to the contact information, the cost section, and a change in the name. The name of the program is now Families That Care: Guiding Good Choices.
  • Updated the population section on the promising practice, New Connections.

November 19, 2002

  • Added the following new best and promising practices to the website: New Connections, Parenting Partnership, Schools and Family Education (SAFE) Children, and Community Trials Intervention to Reduce High-Risk Drinking.
