  • Workshop Title: Prevention Ethics (6 CEHs) at the Spring Academy: Prevention & Treatment Exchange conference - Reno, NV - May 18-19, 2009

As the prevention field becomes more established, ethical codes that specifically relate to the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of prevention workers are becoming standardized. Prevention specialists need to be aware of ethical codes that relate to working with a variety of specialized populations (e.g., children, adolescents, college students, families, and seniors). Ethical dilemmas will be presented and participants will have the opportunity to recommend and discuss potential solutions. This three-day track will focus on ethical codes that apply directly to professionals delivering prevention services, but will not focus on ethical codes relating to substance abuse treatment. (Food & Beverage will not be provided.)

The California State Incentive Grant (SIG) focused on environmental prevention. Part A will explore SIG program components and lessons learned related to community effectiveness, with emphasis on developing coalitions, linking environments and populations, thinking small, committing sufficient time policy change, and using the media. Part B will review lessons learned concerning community assessment and evaluation of the SIG project. Among the areas discussed will be linking assessment data to environments, assessing environments, using logic models, and assessing changes to environments as precursors to behavior change. (Food & Beverage will not be provided.)

Workshop Titles: (Part A) Groups: Dynamics and Challenges, (Part B) Group Facilitation Techniques, (Part C) Conflict Resolution, and (Part D) Coalition Building (4 CEHs for all four) at the Spring Academy: Prevention & Treatment Exchange conference - Reno, NV - May 19, 2009
