Service to Science Academy
The Service to Science Academy is an initiative of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to enhance the evaluation capacity of innovative programs and practices that address critical substance abuse prevention or mental health needs in your state and community. The Service to Science initiative aims to provide direct technical assistance to program developers, implementers and evaluators to gather evidence about their program's effectiveness through rigorous scientific methods allowing programs to increase their ability to make claims about their intervention's effectiveness. The CAPTs host this one and one-half day Academy in each region at designated times. Programs must be nominated by their state's National Prevention Network (NPN) director. Each nominated program must complete an application that will be reviewed, and those selected for attendance are the most motivated, the most innovative, and in the best position to improve the rigor of their evaluation methods. Programs that are selected to participate in an Academy may receive limited follow-up technical assistance and are also eligible for additional funding opportunities.
