Pathways to Effective Programs and Positive Outcomes

“Needs Assessment data? Program Selection? What if the programs out there are not quite right for my community? Evaluation? SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework? Okay, so what do I do now?” Pathways to Effective Programs and Positive Outcomes is a planning model that helps to prepare prevention professionals to effectively use SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework. There are five major topic areas addressed in the training program: 1) Assessment (Needs/Resources); 2) Capacity Building; 3) Planning; 4) Implementation; and 5) Evaluation.

Target Audience:
Substance abuse prevention program staff, as well as administrative and/or management staff.
 
Training Objectives:
Participants will increase their knowledge of:
  1. The importance of connecting a comprehensive needs and resources assessment to program selection.
  2. Connecting internal capacity to program selection.
  3. Considerations in adapting programs to address prevention needs.
  4. Considerations in effectively implementing and assessing prevention programs.
  5. Considerations in developing an evaluation plan for prevention programs.
Format:
This is a highly interactive program that combines lectures and presentations with intensive discussion, interactive activities and/or group work.
 
Number of Participants:
8-10 maximum
 
Time Frame:
General overview – 1 day
Intensive sessions on each step, 1-2 days for each of the five steps
