Training Overview

Cultural Competency

The premise of this training is that to be competent is to accept and appreciate the cultural experiences that define others, not just to know and tolerate the differences these experiences create.

Target Audience:
Community Practitioners, Human Resource Staff, Community Leaders
 
Training Objectives:
Participants will increase their knowledge base in order to:
  1. Appreciate and accept the pain of others without owning their pain
  2. Determine how our world view influences those around us
  3. Embrace our own pain and accountability
  4. Have or continue the never ending conversation and learning process
  5. Realize that it is not easy “to just let go and move on.”
  6. Understand how each of us has the power to diminish or empower others
Format:
Facilitation (to create a safe environment) with the use of DVD/videos, role-playing and conversations.
 
Number of Participants:
15-25
 
Time Frame:
The optimal time is 16 hours (to increase skill and knowledge), but can be shortened to an 8 hour event (to increase knowledge only).
