Kathy Atwood, M.S., Sc.D. — Evaluator

Dr. Katharine Atwood serves CSAP's Southeast CAPT as Evaluator and is responsible for the day to day evaluation activities. She is an Associate Research Scientist at PIRE-Louisville. Before coming to PIRE in the Fall of 2006, she had been a Research Assistant Professor at the College of Public Health at the University of Kentucky where her work had been primarily in the area of HIV prevention. She has been co-investigator of a NIAAA-funded HIV prevention study targeting male adolescents in detention facilities in Kentucky and Ohio and among male and female adolescents in alternative schools in inner-city Chicago. She is currently Co-Principal Investigator of a peer led HIV prevention intervention targeting inner-city adolescents. Previously she was the Co-Principal Investigator of several evaluation projects for the Kentucky Department of Public Health including HIV counseling and testing programs and HIV prevention and outreach services. Dr. Atwood received a BA in English from the University of Rochester, a masters (MS) and doctorate in behavioral sciences (Sc.D) from the Harvard School of Public Health and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in cancer prevention from the Harvard School of Public Health.
