Brief Overview of Statewide Prevention Plan
In fiscal year 1994-95, thirteen state agencies administered 88 prevention programs for children, youth and families with expenditures totaling $181.8 million. Of this total, 49.7% was funded by federal revenue, 42.6% by state revenue, and 7.7% by local revenue. Although several state agencies administered prevention programs in FY 1994-95, two (the Department of Health and Social Services and the Department of Public Instruction) accounted for 95.7% of total expenditures and approximately two-thirds of the 88 programs. The programs provide services to prevent a variety of problems, including adolescent pregnancy, child abuse and neglect, crime and juvenile delinquency, domestic abuse, alcohol and other drug abuse, poor academic performance and school dropouts, and health problems.
Single State Agency (SSA) is the organization designated by the State Governor to coordinate substance abuse prevention efforts in that state.
State Regional Alcohol and Drug Awareness Resource (RADAR) Network consists of state clearinghouses, prevention resource centers, Department of Education Regional Training Centers, and national, international, and local organization supporting substance abuse prevention activities.
The National Prevention Network (NPN), an organization of State alcohol and other drug abuse prevention representatives, provides a national advocacy and communication system for prevention. NPN is administered by NASADAD.
